We're Here

Our inital outreach list came from the racial justice funding of local foundations. We then expanded to Black Philanthropy Houston and other local Black giving guides. We activated our networks and scoured the internet using key social change keywords to find as many BLOs as possible. We outreached to 130 organizations over the course of the planning proces.

Outreach & Engagement

Existing Networks

During the planning process, we identified 18 Black-founded and/or Black-led collaborative groups. While the groups are diverse in the social problems they are addressing and the social change they seek, they shared a common commitment to serving Black communities.

Invest in Black Leaders

One of the key questions we received from participants in the planning process was what would be different from doing this study? While we could make no promises we did distinguish that this planning process was on the state of the sector, and not a specific community/need/issue area.

We know that Houston has had several studies conducted by Black people on the needs of Black folks. Not surprisingly, limited investments have flowed to address those findings. Here are a few that are easily identifiable and still seeking resources:
