Cindy Alvarado

Funder Workgroup | Independent Consultant

Cindy Alvarado (she/her/ella) brings a diverse experience working in the philanthropy sector for the past six years. Currently, she works in Corporate Responsibility at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where she continues her work of supporting small grassroots nonprofit organizations through grantmaking, organizational effectiveness initiatives, and ‘support beyond the check.’ Equity is at the heart of the work Cindy engages in – beyond her grantmaking that seeks to center communities most impacted, her skills in inclusive facilitation and equitable data analysis allow her to amplify and elevate the voices and experiences of communities of color. Cindy’s go-to levers for change within philanthropy include engaging in a strategic data analysis of ‘what we fund’ as well as advocating for and implementing improved internal processes that relate to ‘how we fund.’

She is a strong proponent of focusing on how we do our work, and believes that this plays a large role in how effective foundations and nonprofits will be in serving our communities. Cindy envisions a just, inclusive community where people have the right to self-determine and live their lives with dignity and respect.

Cindy is a 2019-2020 Harmony Initiative Fellow with the Justice Funders Network, and she holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University. She is also a certified Hatha yoga teacher. In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga and being a dog and cat mom.
